A Badass Itinerary for your Elopement Weekend in Austin

Eat, Drink, & Be Married

I’m not tryin' to tell you how to live your life, but Austin is amazing & you should elope there.

To help convince you, I have crafted an ~*amazing*~ itinerary for a long weekend stay.

How to Best Spend Your Elopement Weekend in Austin, Texas | LIFE & ART events | Atlanta, Georgia

First things first, head over to the County Clerk's office to get your marriage license. There is a 72-hour waiting period in Travis County (Austin) between the time you get your license & when you have the ceremony.

All that paperwork probably worked up your appetite. What better first meal than some good ol’ Texas barbecueLamberts Downtown Barbecue is an upscale barbecue joint, but hey, it’s your wedding weekend — treat yo’ self. Have a couple of Old Fashioneds with extra luxardo cherries.

See if you can catch the colony of Mexican bats fly out from under the Congress bridge at dusk.

Have a nightcap at your hotel, the South Congress Hotel. Their bar is as beautiful as the rest of the hotel & the drinks are fantastic.

Grab breakfast & a mimosa carafe at Kerbey Lane Cafe. I've had literally everything on the menu & it's all delicious (except for the biscuits and gravy).

You watched All the Way & loved Bryan Cranston as LBJ, so take in some culture at the LBJ Presidential Library to learn more about the man himself.

Eat some lunch at one of the many food trucks near Zilker Park before heading to the Botanical Garden. Be sure to check out the  gorg. skyline view from Zilker.

For dinner, try some Korean BBQ at Chi'lantro. The beef bulgogi is sooooooooo gooooood.

Austin is the self-proclaimed Live Music Capitol of the World, so do some searching to see where you can hear some tunes & drink a Shiner. Broken Spoke is an old-as-hell honky-tonk bar that is great for people watching & they have two-step lessons at the beginning of the night.

Start your day with a juice or smoothie from JuiceLand & spend a couple of hours hiking on the greenbelt

You’ll have worked up an appetite, so stop by Veracruz All Natural for the best migas tacos in town. I won’t judge you if you eat three; in fact, I’ll judge you if you don’t.

Spend the late afternoon splitting a bottle or two of red on the patio of Opa Coffee & Wine Bar. Bottles of wine are 20% off from 3pm-7pm. Go ahead & get a cheese plate, too, to tide you over ’til dinner.

Have dinner at Odd Duck for delicious farm-to-table fare inspired by local flair

Sleep in late. Walk over to South Congress Cafe for some breakfast & the best Bloody Mary in America.

Stroll around South Congress. Be sure to stop in Uncommon Objects to see all the great items on consignment. Peruse the cases for some last-minute wedding jewelry.

Before heading back to the hotel, pick up a pizza from Home Slice Pizza. Spend the afternoon eating said pizza & laughing with your family/friends/partner while y’all get gussied up for your late afternoon ceremony.

Swank it up for dinner & dish out the cash for Uchi. Get the brussel sprouts to start. Wear your wedding attire because why the hell not?

You have an early afternoon flight, leaving you just enough time for brunch at Elizabeth Street Cafe. Order the roasted pork & wood ear mushroom omelette. Don't forget the baguette with salted butter & seasonal jam. You won’t regret it.

Safe travels, ya crazy-in-lovebirds.

That's the great thing about choosing a fancy elopement: all you have to do is show up & get married. Everything else is taken care of. So, rather than stressing out in the days leading up to your wedding, you are free to enjoy yourselves. & believe me, Austin has loads to enjoy.

Haven't booked your fancy elopement yet? What are you waiting for?
